Paula R.
McMurtry

Paula has practised in Durham Region since her call to the Bar in 2002. After practising with one of Durham Region’s largest law firms, she decided to open her own practice in Port Perry in 2010 with a focus on family law and civil litigation.

Paula is an advocate of Collaborative Family Law and is a Level II Collaborative Family Law Lawyer. Paula’s family law experience includes resolving issues on marriage breakdown and in negotiating Cohabitation Agreements and Marriage Contracts.

Paula is also an experienced family law litigator. Her civil litigation experience includes actions for slip and falls, breach of contract, property claims, including road access matters, wrongful dismissal, sexual assault and disability claims.

Paula has conducted numerous trials and has appeared before the Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court and the Ontario Court of Appeal. She has also been appointed by the Ministry of the Attorney General as a Dispute Resolution Officer at the Oshawa courthouse. A Dispute Resolution Officer provides family litigants with an early evaluation of their case to facilitate settlement and narrow any issues in dispute.

Paula is a former Director of the Durham Region Law Association. As a member of the Education Committee, she acted as a chair/moderator and is active in arranging educational programs for the lawyers of the Association. She was also a committee member for The Advocates’ Society paper on Family Justice Reform and has served in the past as a Director for the Association for Community Living, Ajax-Pickering-Whitby, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Ajax-Pickering. She has also served on the Patient Advisory Council at the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital, as a member of the 100 Women of Scugog and is currently a board member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Durham.
